Peace Mass Transit, in collaboration with Grassroots Cooperative and Peace Microfinance Bank, has launched a new line of inter-state buses under the brand Peace Extra Comfort (PEC) — designed to enhance passenger experience and empower drivers through cooperative financing.
The initiative, which officially kicked off in Abuja, integrates transport innovation with financial inclusion by allowing drivers, referred to as captains, to eventually own the buses they operate through a structured cooperative system managed by Peace Microfinance Bank.
According to the partners, the Peace Extra Comfort scheme is part of broader efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transport system and improve the welfare of operators in the sector. The model blends asset financing, social empowerment, and operational efficiency within the Peace Mass Transit network.
Founded over 30 years ago by Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi and Dr. Mrs. Ifenyinwa Emilia Onyishi, Peace Mass Transit has expanded from a single bus operation into one of the country’s largest inter-state transport networks with more than 3,000 vehicles.
Speaking at the unveiling, Dr. (Mrs.) Judith Onyeishi David, Managing Director of Peace Mass Transit, described the introduction of the Peace Extra Comfort (PEC) line as a “new era” in Nigeria’s transportation industry.
“This initiative guarantees passengers stress-free, reliable, and comfortable travel during this festive season and beyond,” she said.
Each Peace Extra Comfort bus features full air-conditioning, ergonomic seating, in-bus charging ports, and advanced safety systems, operated by professionally trained drivers referred to as “captains.”
What distinguishes PEC, however, is its driver ownership and empowerment model. Through the Grassroots Cooperative, captains can gradually acquire ownership of their buses with financing support from Peace Microfinance Bank—a move aimed at deepening financial inclusion and economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
“Funding the cooperative through Peace Microfinance Bank continues our legacy of empowering individuals and SMEs through asset-backed financial solutions,” Dr. Onyeishi stated. “This initiative not only enhances comfort and safety but also secures livelihoods for hundreds of Nigerians.”
Also speaking, Ambassador Stephanie Nnadi, Founder and CEO of One Percent International Management Services, hailed the partnership as “a model of private sector-driven innovation that aligns with Nigeria’s infrastructure renewal goals.” She described the initiative as a premium, affordable, and empowering way for Nigerians to travel.
Reaffirming the company’s commitment to excellence, Mr. Uche Nwokoye, General Manager of Peace Mass Transit, assured passengers of the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and customer care across all routes.
The launch of the Peace Extra Comfort service signals a strategic shift towards modern, sustainable, and people-centred road transportation — with potential to create ripple effects in employment, logistics efficiency, and mobility standards nationwide.
The new PEC buses are now available for booking at all Peace Mass Transit terminals across major inter-state routes.
“Every mile with Peace Extra Comfort feels like peace of mind,” Nwokoye declared.
