Remita Payment Services Limited (RPSL), a leading financial technology (fintech) pioneer, has reiterated its commitment to nurturing emerging entrepreneurs as crucial catalysts for advancing Africa’s development and ensuring a sustainable business ecosystem. The Managing Director of RPSL, ‘Deremi Atanda, emphasized this commitment during his participation in the Africa Startup Festival held recently at Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Africa Startup Festival annually convenes entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts to collectively explore challenges, solutions, and opportunities within the African business landscape. ‘Deremi Atanda participated in a panel session titled “Building Fintech Solutions: A Reality Check,” alongside other industry leaders. They shared insights on how entrepreneurs can navigate challenges and achieve success in their respective sectors.
Launching a startup, according to ‘Deremi, requires precision beyond innovation, demanding an understanding of the business landscape and regulatory intricacies. Entrepreneurs must familiarize themselves with industry regulations and market dynamics before embarking on their journey, strategically positioning themselves for sustained success.
Peace Obule highlighted the importance of resilience in the face of entrepreneurial challenges, noting that overcoming obstacles requires persistent tenacity. Ike Eze emphasized the need for entrepreneurs to possess distinctive knowledge to create market value.
The event hosted notable participants, including Will Stevens (Consul General, US Consulate in Lagos), Ized Uanikhehi (Founder and CEO, Zedi Africa), Napa Onwusah (AWS Startup Leader), Oyin Solebo (Managing Director, Techstars), Tage Kene Okafor (Lagos Reporter, TechCrunch), and Gbenga Omolokun (Managing Director, VDF Bank).
During the event, Will Stevens highlighted a trend where over 80 per cent of Nigerian startups choose incorporation in the United States, potentially influenced by factors such as access to a robust investment ecosystem and global market exposure. However, demographic projections underscore the substantial workforce in Africa, emphasizing the need for strategic planning to harness the potential of the expanding working-age population.
RPSL, with a history of supporting startups, revealed its strategic vision to establish a Startups Academy, further solidifying its dedication to fostering growth and sustainability within the African tech ecosystem.
