The Whispers of Royalty Collection is the latest fashion creation by Sedeeq Royal Couture. It is a collection that features Danshikis in various colours, designs, and choice fabrics. The founder of the brand, Sodiq Olalekan Akanni, explained that he wanted to share the beauty of Danshiki with the world as he considered it a much-needed piece of clothing in every man’s wardrobe. Of truth, these designs are beautiful enough to be in anyone’s wardrobe, but they do not seem made for the older generations.
Danshiki styles are easy to pull off with or without accessories and can be worn to any event as well as for a casual date or a relaxed evening with loved ones. The Whispers of Royalty Collection had embroidered designs on a few of the clothes in the collection, but the heavy embroideries were made on the Aso-Oke fabric, a few had less embroideries while some were plain Danshikis. The fabrics used ranged from Aso-Oke, which often allows for heavy embroideries, to Adire, Ankara, Lace, Guinea Brocade, Silk, and Cotton. The designs are unique yet feature various simple and elaborate patterns on the chest side or the lower parts of the shirt. Some of the tops are of knee and slightly over knee lengths allowing the trousers to show.
This collection has an extensive blend of colour palettes ranging from bright colours such as White, Red, and Green to mixed bright colours like Ochre and Burgundy, Blue and Beige, Red and Yellow. There are other soft colours like Mustard, Lilac, Olive, and Navy Blue. These colours suit both dark-skinned and light-skinned men well especially if they are mindful of pairing it with select accessories. One tricky part might be that for some, the designs on some of the clothes in the collections dissuade heavy accessorizing and this may mean that little to no accessories are needed to complete the look.
As much as there are lots of colours, designs and even fabrics to choose from, this collection is more suited for young men. A lot of the old men who probably want to wear what may remind them of their youth may not be able to find something long enough or well-suited for their older frame except for the agbada. Several older men like their shirts to be longer than their knees and this collection is not the type for them. We wish that many fashion designers pay attention to the older generation too as we are sure a lot of them do not mind wearing something simple with modern designs yet suited to reflect the wisdom and respect that old age is accorded with. We hope that Sedeeq Royal Couture pays attention to the older folks and just maybe other fashion designers can do the same as well. After all, everyone deserves to look their best whether in vintage or redefined designs of old styles.
