Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised Stallion Motors Nigeria as the company introduced the Hyundai Kona EV, Nigeria’s first electric vehicle produced locally. He expressed optimism about the prospects of electric vehicles in Nigeria.

The vice president made these remarks after Stallion Motors showcased the electric vehicle during a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) and took a test drive along with Jelani Aliyu, the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

Manufactured at Stallion’s Lagos plant, the Hyundai Kona EV is expected to gain popularity among Nigerian car enthusiasts and corporate organizations due to its cost-effectiveness, environmental friendliness, and overall convenience.

The Hyundai Kona, which was initially introduced in Lagos in 2020, comes with a 5-year battery warranty and a 5-year vehicle warranty.

With a fully charged battery pack, the Hyundai Kona can travel up to 482 km (300 miles), which is roughly equivalent to a journey from Lagos to Awka in Anambra State or from Kano to Sokoto. The battery can be recharged at home or in the office.

Following the endorsement by the NEC, Dr. Harpreet Singh, the Managing Director of VON Automobiles, Stallion’s auto assembly unit, emphasized that the company’s innovation is a step towards creating an eco-friendly and green Nigeria.

“The Stallion Group fully supports the Nigerian government’s efforts toward a clean environment. We have introduced the Hyundai Kona EV to contribute to this initiative, which will not only improve our environment but also provide an economic advantage to the market for those who consider energy costs,” Singh emphasized. He further assured customers that the sale of the Hyundai Kona EV would be accompanied by the company’s comprehensive after-sales service.
