Giovanni Simeone, son of respected Atlético Madrid tactician Diego Simeone, is convinced that he can do well with Victor Osimhen at Napoli.
Last week, Giovanni, an Argentina international, switched to the Naples-based outfit on a season-long loan from Serie A rivals Hellas Verona after a breakout season that saw him score a career best seventeen goals.
The 27-year-old was officially presented to the media at the SSC Napoli Konami Training Center in Castel Volturno.
Simeone has been tasked with taking some of the goalscoring burden off Napoli’s record acquisition Osimhen.
Since Osimhen landed at Napoli in 2020, only Lorenzo Insigne (32 goals), who ended his association with the club in the summer, has netted more goals than the Super Eagles striker who has 30 goals to his name.
On choosing Napoli despite Osimhen’s presence, Giovanni told reporters including Spazio Napoli, “I had many offers, I knew Victor was there but I can do the same well with him too.”
On playing together with Osimhen, he said, “I will make myself available to the coach. He will be the one to see what is best for the team.”
For the first time in his professional career, Osimhen has started a season with goals in consecutive games, something he did not manage to do at Wolfsburg, Sporting Charleroi and Lille.
