President Bola Tinubu is set to propose a bill requiring foreign residents in Nigeria to register for a National Identification Number (NIN) as part of efforts to streamline taxation.
This move aims to enhance tax compliance and improve the government’s ability to track foreign residents for tax purposes.
Meanwhile, Olatunji Durodola, a key figure in Nigeria’s identity management, explained why it will be challenging for the country to issue physical ID cards. Durodola noted that the digital shift and infrastructure limitations make it difficult to provide physical identification cards for every citizen.
