Transport Institute To Support FG On AfCFTA Implementation

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Nigeria, on Monday, said the institute would offer solutions and advise to the government on the implementation of the Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Speaking at a Pre-conference Webinar on the 2023 National Conference and Annual General Meeting which would be Chaired by the minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the president of the association, Barr. Mfon Usoro, called on participants to register for the event ahead of commencement on Monday.

Usoro further noted that, the institute is metamorphosing from the elderly, taking up key roles, to the younger ones, taking up leadership positions.

Also speaking, the chairman, Planning Committee of the conference, Prof Kayode Oyesiku, said the theme of the conference is ‘Designing the Future of Transportation and Logistics in Africa.’

According to Prof Oyesiku, the choice of holding the conference in Lagos is not unconnected with the resounding success CILT has had in the 2020 CILT Conference. Doing this in succession shows also that Lagos metropolis offers diversified, multimodal transportation system, he said.

Also speaking, the CILT Conference Planning Sub-committee Chairman, Dr Ogo Ugboma, said the institute has gone a great length to get experts in various fields to look at the discussions at the event.

Some of the discussions include; Cross Border Trade and Regional Integration, the session would be led by Prof Jonathan Aremu, an ECOWAS regional expert on trade. Others include; Infrastructure Development and Management, among other discussions.

According to Dr Ugboma, participants at the 2-day conference would go on a tour of the Lagos waterways, as well as a ride on the Lagos Light railway from Marina to Mile 2. The conference would also witness a Gala night and display of rich African cultures.

Dr Ugboma said, the annual general meeting(AGM) would be used to Inaugurate the newly elected executives of CILT Nigeria in the recently conducted electronic elections, which Barr Mrs Mfon Ekong Usoro was re-elected as President.

On his part, the chairman, Lagos State CILT, Alhaji Bashir Ambi, said the book lunch titled; “Perspective on Sustainable Innovation in Global Logistics and Transportation.” was edited by Prof Kayode Oyesiku, and scheduled for unveiling 27th November, 2023 at the venue of the conference.

On the proposed tour for participants, Ambi who is conference Publicity Committee Chairman said: “The committee has been disseminating information for the Conference participants to register for the tour. The tour is tagged: ‘Experience a Refreshing Inland Water Ways Boat of Lagos Lagoon,’ scheduled for 28 November,2023.”
