Coach Aliyu Zubairu has outlined his objectives as Nigeria’s U20 boys, the Flying Eagles, resumed training in Abuja in preparation for the upcoming WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament, which will be held in Ghana.
“We are taking proactive measures to ensure that the challenges we faced previously are addressed thoroughly. My assistants and I are fully aware of the issues concerning the team’s attacking capabilities, and we are making concerted efforts to rectify the situation.
“The tournament in Ghana presents a valuable opportunity to showcase additional players, and we intend to seize that chance. We plan to use the matches as preparation for the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile.”
Nigeria, a two-time FIFA World Cup runner-up, will be among Africa’s four representatives at the 24th FIFA U20 World Cup finals scheduled to take place in Chile from 27 September to 19 October. The other representatives are South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt.
The WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament will occur in Ghana from 10 to 23 July, with the Flying Eagles placed in Group A alongside hosts Ghana and Benin Republic. Their first match is against Ghana on 10 July, followed by a match against Benin Republic on 13 July. Group B consists of Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Togo.
