President, Waste Pickers Association of Nigerian (WAPAN), the umbrella body for waste pickers in Nigerian, has announced the appointment of Alhaji Suleiman Adama as its Acting General Secretary.
In a press statement released yesterday, by the president of WAPAN, Comrade Salisu Yarima, expressed confidence that Adama’s appointment would have the desired impact on the association.
According to the statement, Adama’s background in maritime management and excellent business development skills will contribute to the association’s presence and visibility in Nigeria. Yarima also said that the association believes Adama’s meritorious public service background and strong communication experience will also help WAPAN develop strategic alliances with key stakeholders.
He said, ‘‘Adama possesses extensive professional experience in the Nigerian and global maritime industry. During his service years at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the apex Federal Government maritime regulatory agency in Nigeria, he held various positions.
“Adama was trained at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York, USA, the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the great Obafemi Awolowo University amongst several management training institutions in Nigeria and overseas. He is a member of the International Multi-Modal Transport Association, Geneva, the United Nations Committee on Trade Facilitation, Geneva.
“He is a Federal Government of Nigeria appointed mentor of the YouWin Programme, a co-founder, executive director of the Blue Economy Resources Nigeria Group and a Fellow, Institute of Mentoring and Career Coaching Nigeria.” Adama who is happily married is an avid golfer and a proud Overall Winner of the Port Harcourt Open Golf Tournament.
