The Shinkafi Civil Society Organization (SCSO) has commended the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, for spearheading a successful military operation that resulted in the death of an associate and son of notorious kidnapper Bello Turji.

The operation, conducted by the Nigerian Army over the weekend, targeted Turji’s gang following threats he made earlier this year to launch attacks on Shinkafi starting January 1, 2025. Troops, acting on Matawalle’s directives, destroyed Turji’s camp, killed several of his close associates, and inflicted significant damage on his operations.

While Turji himself escaped with serious injuries, the assault has been hailed as a major blow to his criminal network. The military’s efforts included burning down the gang’s camp and dismantling their operations in the region.

Speaking at a press briefing in Shinkafi, (SCSO) Chairman Kabiru Yahuza expressed gratitude to Matawalle for his decisive actions and unwavering commitment to the security of the area.

“The recent offensive has given Shinkafi residents renewed confidence in their safety,” Yahuza said, describing the operation as a turning point in the fight against banditry.

Residents of Shinkafi, who have endured months of attacks, have lauded the military’s success, attributing it to Matawalle’s leadership. The (SCSO) also called for continued public support for the Nigerian military and local authorities, emphasizing the need for collective action in the battle against insecurity.

Despite not being the first chief security officer of Zamfara State, Minister Matawalle has shown exceptional dedication to the welfare of the people, according to Yahuza.

His proactive measures have strengthened security efforts and restored hope to communities ravaged by banditry.

The Nigerian Army’s strike serves as a testament to the growing effectiveness of the country’s security apparatus under the current administration. Authorities have urged patience and ongoing support from citizens as they continue to work towards restoring peace in Zamfara and beyond.

Minister Matawalle reaffirmed his commitment to ending the reign of terror by bandits, stating that his focus remains on ensuring lasting peace and security in the region.
