Who Owns Largest Data Centre In Nigeria?

The blue whale is the largest mammal on earth. Animallot.com says the blue whale reaches lengths of up to 100 feet. It weighs 200 tons. These massive creatures are found in all oceans. They have a distinctive, blue-grey colour, long and slender shape. Blue whales are relatively gentle. Feed on small krill and plankton. Rarely coming into conflict with humans.

On The One Hand
There are many large mammals in the world. Each has unique characteristics and adaptations. Likewise, there are many data centres in the world. There are 11 centres in Nigeria. These data centres are multi-tenant providers. They are the pioneer. Now we have the latest hyper-scale data centre with a 38-megawatt information technology load in Lagos. Owning a data centre is akin to owning an empire. You can

On The Other Hand
Your video calls, WhatsApp messages, voice calls, and movie binges rely on the seamless transport of data. Global data and voice traffic have continued to surge. Because of this, you cannot overemphasise the importance of data centres in telecommunications. Data centres embody the principles of centralisation. The facilities ensure that vast amounts of data are processed and stored efficiently. Guaranteeing an uptime reaching what the telecom.net called “five nines reliability (99.999%).’’

In The Long Term
As the demand for telecom services evolves, let us roll into the role of data centres in shaping global data networks. Data centres offer the flexibility needed to support the demand for telecom services. The telcos rely on data centres to scale their information technology resources quickly and efficiently. Without the data centres, it is difficult for the telcos to scale. To meet surges in demand. Or adapt to new technologies like 5G. Edge computing and AI. Data centres ensure the telecom services remain responsive and reliable during peak usage times (remember Detty December, Christmas and the Easter periods). Data centres help the telcos expand their network infrastructure. Maintain seamless communication experiences for you. Remain competitive.
If the data centres mean this much to the telcos, what has been their journey? Many telcos rely on third-party data centres. That is not sustainable. It is akin to living in a rented apartment. You need a house you can call your own, you know. That is why Airtel Nigeria has made a strategic investment by committing an additional 120 million dollars to construct the largest data centre in Nigeria. It is a 38-megawatt hyper-scale facility. It is in the heart of Eko Atlantic, Lagos.
This investment will help Airtel Nigeria to double its network expansion plans. Accelerate its rollout of 5G technology. Guarantee high-speed network connections. Deliver rapid data transmission between users and applications. This capability minimises latency. Meaning: No buffering calls. No delay when watching shows on online streaming platforms. No bluffing!
What is more? Nxtra by Airtel data centre features over 3,000 racks across six floors. A built-up area of approximately 300,000 square feet. Engineered for high power density of up to 25 kilowatts per rack. It is suitable for the next-generation workloads. CPU-intensive applications and artificial intelligence.
