In this interview with, a nutritionist, Coach Deola said hypertension and diabetes can be prevented or managed through proper nutrition.’’

Can hypertension and diabetes be prevented or managed through nutrition?

Yes, it can because they are triggered by your diet and can prevented or managed by your diet even to the point of reversal Using only drugs is like mopping a flooded house and not closing the water source, you have to keep mopping (using drugs) making it progressive as you are always be told while nutrition helps to put off the water source, drugs then aid to mop.

Do unhealthy diets predispose individuals to non-communicable diseases, including diabetes and hypertension?

Yes, unhealthy diets predispose you to these diseases. You could have the tendency to develop diabetes but as long as you live a healthy lifestyle you won’t develop it. Our forefathers didn’t have these diseases, their emergence came with processed foods, modern foods we know we eat triggers it (Epigenetics).

What are the health Implications of consuming energy drinks?

Loss of sleep, dopamine resistance so you drink more to be had the sense of fulfilment (happy thrills of satisfaction). Fatty liver, insulin resistance, depression, Gut inflammation, kidney failure, in men, it lowers testosterone production leading to erectile failure, loss of libido, low sperm count, aromatization of testosterone to oestrogen.

Would you advice on regular consumption of snacks and junk?

No. It predisposes you to metabolic diseases.

What are the health implications of consuming artificially ripened fruits?

The industrial-grade calcium carbide used to force ripening is often found contaminated with trace amounts of arsenic and phosphorus, which are toxic chemicals causing poisoning leading to vomiting, diarrhoea with/without blood, weakness, burning sensation in the chest and abdomen, thirst, the problem in swallowing, burning of eyes, permanent eye damage, ulcers on the skin, mouth, nose and throat. Other symptoms include throat sores, cough, wheezing and shortness of breath.

Are diabetes and hypertensive patients expected to avoid certain fruits and vegetables?

Veggies are okay but fruits especially modern ones are too ladened with fructose ( sugar) , though doesn’t have effect on blood sugar but could lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease which could cause more insulin resistance ( you don’t want that) because most hypertensive and diabetic patients are already insulin resistant. Non-starchy veggies are preferable, Avocado, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage

What is the role of nutrition in childhood diabetes and obesity?

Nutrition is key in this area as no baby is born fat. It’s mostly due to a mother’s eating habits during pregnancy. Also, these babies in their early lives are exposed to epigenetics or endocrine receptors. Baby formulas, hormonal contraceptives are secreted in breastmilk hence find their way into a baby’s metabolic system. Refined carbs eg Weetabix Pasteurized milk, Soy milk are endocrine disruptors makes children. Obese Have boobs (both boys and girls) big buttocks and hips. When these children become adults, they struggle with sexual and reproductive health issues like infertility, erectile dysfunction, PCOS and mental challenges eg Bipolar disorder, metabolic health issues. Diet is the solution to weight loss, Exercise with wrong diet won’t work because you can’t outrun a bad diet.
