Immediate past Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Yusuf Zailani, member representing Igabi state constituency has emerged as the new Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly (KDHA), as a result of the resignation of the former speaker, Alhaji Aminu Shagali.
While reading the resignation letter to the Assembly during it’s plenary, the former Speaker said he resigned his position as the speaker on personal grounds.
The clerk who declared the Speaker’s seat vacant also requested a motion for the nomination of a new Speaker.
Alhaji Sulaiman Dabo, member representing Zaria city constituency nominated the Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Zailani and was seconded by Bako Kantiok Emmanuel, member representing Zonkwa Constituency.
Hon Shehu Yunus panbeguwa, member representing Kubau Constituency moved for the nomination of the seat of the Deputy Speaker which was declared vacant and nominated Hon. Mukhtar Isah Hazo of Basawa Constituency, while Hon. Yusuf Mugu of Kaura Constituency seconded the nomination of same.
The clerk of the House, Alhaji Zubairu went ahead to swear in both Hon. Yusuf Zailani and Mukhtar Hazo as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively both of them coming from zone two of the state.
The House thereafter adjourned to Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the former Speaker was forced to resign his position following moves by the members to impeach him. Over 2/3 of the members, it was gathered signed for his impeachment over a series of allegations against him.
