Zamfara PDP bye-election candidate Muhammad kurya dumps party, defects to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party in Zamfara State has been hit by another wave of defections as Muhammad Kurya, its candidate in the August 2025 Kaura Namoda South State Assembly by-election, dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement issued to journalists in Gusau, Kuryar blamed his defection on what he called the failed leadership and deceitful politics of Governor Dauda Lawal Dare.

He accused the governor of running the PDP like a personal empire, saying arrogance, selfishness, and betrayal had replaced teamwork and accountability within the party.

“The PDP in Zamfara today is no longer a party of the people. It is a one-man show driven by greed and ego. Governor Dauda has politicised insecurity, ignored stakeholders, and abandoned the suffering masses,” he declared.

Kurya said many loyal members had become disillusioned after being sidelined, while insecurity and unfulfilled promises continued to plague the state.

He praised the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and former governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari for their leadership and commitment to the development of Zamfara, describing them as patriots who represent hope and stability.

“Joining the APC under their guidance is a step toward rebuilding our state and restoring confidence in governance,” he added.

Kurya pledged full loyalty to the APC and vowed to help strengthen the party ahead of future elections, saying only the APC had the leadership discipline to return Zamfara to the path of peace and prosperity.
