Zamfara youth hails Matawalle, decries neglect of youth under current administration

A youth group under the aegis of Zamfara Youth Concerned Citizens has lauded the leadership qualities and developmental strides recorded during the administration of former Governor, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, describing his tenure as a period of inclusion, progress and hope for the people of the state.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Kabiru Ibrahim Gusau, the group said Matawalle’s government between 2019 and 2023 stood out for its commitment to infrastructural growth, agricultural development and efforts to restore peace across Zamfara.

“Dr. Matawalle’s administration invested massively in roads, water projects and education. His policies were transparent, people-centred and inclusive,” Gusau noted.

He lamented what he called the neglect of the youth and scholars under the present administration, saying the current government had failed to sustain Matawalle’s inclusive model.

“Since Matawalle left office, Zamfara youths have been abandoned. His administration empowered young people through skills, appointments and opportunities that gave them a sense of belonging,” he said.

Gusau further faulted the exclusion of scholars and community leaders from governance, contrasting it with Matawalle’s era, when religious and traditional figures were regularly consulted on policy matters.

“Matawalle respected our scholars and sought their guidance. Today, decisions are made without their input, and that has weakened the state’s moral and social direction,” he added.

The group urged the current administration to emulate Matawalle’s style by re-engaging youth and scholars in governance to restore unity and direction in the state.
