Gombe State chapter of Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), yesterday embarked on indefinite strike over welfare, promotion, among others.
Chairman of the association, Dr. Saidu Alhassan who addressed newsmen at the state’s Specialist Hospital, Gombe, said the strike action has the backing of the national body of the association.
He disclosed that the 21-day ultimatum given to the state government to meet the association’s demands, expired last Tuesday and the association has no other option than to embark on indefinite strike beginning from yesterday.
He bemoaned the brain drain of doctors from Gombe State to other medical facilities due to poor welfare.
Alhassan stressed that the strike action is not political, as being insinuated in some quarters.
He added that in case there is any emergency with regards to COVID-19 or Lassa fever, a unit of doctors are around to attend to such emergency.
The ARD boss, further told journalists that there is no going back on the strike action until their demands are met.
