The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has issued a warning to Nigerians about the increasing sophistication of phishing attacks on the internet.

Head of corporate affairs and external relations at NITDA, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, conveyed the message, highlighting the manipulation of individuals into opening infected email attachments, clicking on malicious links, or divulging sensitive information.

Phishing attacks, particularly email-based, have become the most common method for attackers to obtain user credentials. Umar noted that cybercriminals are leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the sophistication of their attack approaches. This involves using AI to conduct thorough research on potential victims and creating personalized messages to deceive them effectively.

To safeguard against phishing attacks, NITDA advised Nigerians not to enter personal information on suspicious websites, use strong passwords, and exercise caution in opening emails and clicking on links.
