elections,2025 National Sports Federations’ Board Elections: NSC Unveils Timeline Proposed Timelines For 2025 National Sports Federations’ Elections

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has released the proposed timelines for the 2025 elections of the boards of National Sports Federations.

The announcement, made by Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, director of press at the NSC, provides a comprehensive timeline spanning from June to September 2025.

The preparatory phase is set to commence with the deadline for the establishment of Electoral Committees by National Sports Federations on 15 June 2025. This initial step will pave the way for the release of nomination forms, which will become available on 1st August 2025. Interested candidates will have until 4th August 2025 to submit their nomination forms.

Further activities follow closely, with representatives from all constituencies—excluding zonal representatives—required to submit their names by 7 August 2025. The verification of these names is scheduled for 8 August 2025, ensuring a robust candidate list.

Zonal representatives will then face elections on 9 August 2025 at designated zonal headquarters, with any public disputes arising from these elections to be heard on 12 August 2025. In cases where petitions lead to bye-elections, these will take place on 14 August 2025.

As the timeline progresses, the National Elections will be conducted at the MKO National Stadium from September 1 to 15, 2025, coinciding with the inauguration of the new National Sports Federation Board during the same period.

Post-election petitions will have a designated hearing period from 16 to 26 September 2025. Should there be any bye-elections resulting from these petitions, they are scheduled for 30 September 2025.

This structured approach aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process and is seen as a significant step towards enhancing sports governance at the national level.

For further information, stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to monitor announcements from the NSC as the electoral timelines draw nearer.
