King Amachree Sports Academy (KASA), Obuama, has won the Samuel Okwaraji Under-16 Football Tournament after defeating St. Peter’s Secondary School 1-0 in the final played in Port Harcourt.

Michael Unity scored the decisive goal to hand the academy the title in one of Rivers State’s youth football competitions.

KASA reached the final after defeating Perfect Brain Secondary School 3-1 in the semi-finals.

The Samuel Okwaraji Under-16 Football Tournament is organised in memory of former Super Eagles midfielder Samuel Okwaraji, who died during a FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Angola at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, in 1989.

The football triumph comes weeks after KASA’s basketball team won the 26th Nestlé MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, defeating Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, to claim the national title.

Reacting to the latest victory, the proprietor of the academy, Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, congratulated the players and coaching crew, describing the achievement as a reflection of the academy’s investment in youth development.

He said the victory would encourage further investment in sports and education at the institution.

Dokubo-Asari has also approved a five-year strategic partnership between King Amachree Sports Academy and EEXSport Digital Company Limited to strengthen the academy’s sports development programmes.

Under the agreement, EEXSport will provide technical management, sports science support, educational enhancement, commercial development, sponsorship acquisition and international partnerships for the academy.

The partnership will also establish an International Athlete Pathways Programme aimed at identifying outstanding talents for international showcases, European training camps, scholarship opportunities and professional club placements.

The academy said the partnership would also expand its programmes in football, basketball, athletics, swimming, volleyball, handball and tennis, while promoting academic excellence and leadership development.
