Zolair Energy Solutions Limited has announced plans to establish Nigeria’s first integrated plant for e-tricycle assembly, zinc-air fuel cell production, and sodium-ion battery manufacturing.
The company disclosed this in a statement signed by its chief executive officer and managing director, Kayode Babatunde. He said the firm, located in Idu, Abuja, is actively seeking $21 million in funding to bring the project to fruition. He disclosed that the integrated plant is poised to address critical energy and transportation challenges in Nigeria by providing affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly solutions. He added that the state-of-the-art facility will be a significant step towards Nigeria’s transition to green mobility and energy independence.
“Nigeria is at the cusp of a green energy revolution, and Zolair Energy Solutions is proud to be at the forefront,” said Kayode Babatunde, Chief Executive Officer of Zolair Energy Solutions Limited. “Our integrated plant in Abuja will not only produce cutting-edge e-tricycles and advanced battery technologies but also create numerous jobs, foster local expertise, and significantly reduce our nation’s carbon footprint. We believe this initiative will have a profound impact on both our economy and environment.”
The firm also stated that Zolair Energy Solutions is committed to leveraging next-generation battery technologies unlike conventional electric vehicle manufacturers. He said, “The plant will specialise in zinc-air fuel cell production. Known for their high energy density, low cost, and environmental friendliness, zinc-air batteries offer a safer and more sustainable alternative to traditional lithium-ion batteries. Zolair Energy’s focus on this technology positions them as a leader in innovative energy storage.
“Sodium-ion battery manufacturing, utilising abundant and inexpensive sodium, provides a cost-effective, safer, and high-performing solution, particularly well-suited for diverse applications and challenging climates. Their superior thermal stability and ability to operate in cold temperatures make them ideal for the Nigerian context.”
“The establishment of this integrated plant will directly contribute to sustainable transportation. By assembling e-tricycles and implementing a battery-swapping system, Zolair Energy will offer a viable, clean, and efficient alternative to petrol-powered tricycles, a common mode of transport in Nigeria. Local production of advanced batteries reduces reliance on imported technologies and strengthens Nigeria’s position in the global renewable energy landscape. The project will generate substantial employment opportunities, stimulate local manufacturing, and attract further investment into Nigeria’s green economy.”
