The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a major upgrade to its diaspora enrolment platform, directing all licensed agents operating overseas to fully activate their licences and comply with the new operating guidelines.
The commission said said in Abuja, that the upgrade was part of efforts to enhance service delivery for Nigerians abroad, ensuring faster National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment and improved data security. It noted that the revised platform integrates more robust identity verification protocols, streamlined payment systems, and an expanded capacity to handle the growing demand for NIN registration among the Nigerian diaspora.
NIMC director-general, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the commission expects all licensed diaspora enrolment agents to immediately complete the licence activation process in line with the upgrade. “We are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of location, has access to secure and efficient NIN enrolment services. This upgrade will not only improve the user experience but also strengthen the integrity of our national identity database,” she stated.
She explained that the enhanced platform is designed to reduce delays in NIN issuance, minimise technical downtime, and provide real-time feedback to applicants. The commission added that it will be conducting compliance checks to ensure agents adhere to the new operational standards.
She urged Nigerians living abroad to take advantage of the improved system, noting that possession of a valid NIN remains mandatory for accessing government services, banking transactions, passport issuance, and other essential functions
