Nigeria and India have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in aviation and technical capacity development, including efforts to improve air connectivity and strengthen the bilateral air services agreement (BASA).
The agreement followed a meeting between the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The meeting, held at Keyamo’s office focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in aviation and aerospace development.
In a post on X, the Indian High Commission said the discussions also explored opportunities to establish local maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) infrastructure in Nigeria.
“Both sides had a positive and constructive discussion and agreed to further advance cooperation in these areas, including through capacity-building and skills development programmes, with a view to strengthening technical capabilities and creating new opportunities for both countries,” the commission said.
The Indian High Commission said the meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to deepening cooperation in the aviation and aerospace sectors and further strengthening the India-Nigeria strategic partnership.
Keyamo said both sides had agreed to hold a meeting in India soon to further address the issues discussed.
The proposed cooperation is expected to focus on technical capacity building, skills development, air connectivity and the development of local MRO infrastructure in Nigeria.
