LG Electronics has commissioned a solar-powered borehole and a free mobile laundry service in Osusu-Amankwa community, Aba, Abia State, as part of its social impact and clean energy initiatives.

The projects, inaugurated at a ceremony attended by community leaders and residents, are aimed at improving access to potable water and easing domestic burdens in the area. The solar-powered borehole is designed to provide a steady supply of clean water independent of the national grid, while the mobile laundry unit will offer free services to residents.

Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, Paul Mba, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to deploying technology to address critical community needs. He noted that the projects are part of efforts to promote sustainable solutions that improve living conditions and support environmental sustainability.

Community leaders welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. Her Royal Majesty Ugoeze Esther Adanma Ikonne said the borehole would significantly improve access to safe water and reduce the burden on women and children who often travel long distances to fetch water.

Chief Ajuba Amaechi also commended the initiative, noting that it would contribute to long-term community development and resilience.

Residents expressed relief at the development, with some noting that access to clean water and free laundry services would improve hygiene and reduce health risks.

The Aba project follows a similar solar-powered borehole initiative recently executed by LG in Owerri, indicating a broader push by the company to expand its community-focused interventions across eastern Nigeria.
