King Amachree Sports Academy (KASA), Obuama, Rivers State, has won the boys’ title at the 26th Nestlé MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship after defeating defending champions Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, 56-54 in the final.
The championship, which concluded recently at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, featured secondary school teams from across Nigeria that qualified through regional competitions.
According to a statement by KASA, in the girls’ category, Government Secondary School (GSS), Gboko, Benue State, defeated their opponents 68-36 to emerge champions.
“KASA’s victory came after a dramatic comeback in the closing stages of the boys’ final, securing the academy’s first national title after seven years of participation in the competition. Founded by Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Amanyanabo of The Source, Elem Kalabari, KASA combines academic and sports development for young athletes.
Following the championship victory, the academy announced a five-year strategic partnership with EEXSport Digital Company Limited to strengthen its sports and academic programmes,’’ the statement read.
Speaking after the final, Dokubo said the academy intends to build on the success by expanding opportunities for student-athletes through improved education and sports development.
The statement further revealed that, “Under the agreement, EEXSport Digital Company Limited, led by sports administrator and broadcaster Emeka Enyadike, will provide technical and operational support in areas including sports management, academic development, sponsorship, marketing and international partnerships, while ownership and governance of the academy will remain unchanged. The development plan is structured around six focus areas: academic excellence, sports development, leadership training, international athlete pathways, community engagement and financial sustainability.’’
The academy also plans to establish an International Athlete Pathways Programme to connect outstanding students with overseas training opportunities, scholarships, and professional development programmes.
The partnership follows KASA’s emergence as Nigeria’s boys’ basketball champions at the country’s premier secondary school basketball championship.
