The Lagos State government has once again banned indefinitely the activities of its Ministry of Transportation (MOT) Taskforce team.
A statement by Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser on Transportation, Lagos State government said that the decision to ban the taskforce team was reached after a thorough appraisal and review of its enforcement teams operating under the ministry of transportation, which he said needed to be scaled down.
The statement hinted that based on this new directive, the public is to report the activities of any unauthorised enforcement team disguising as MOT taskforce to the Ministry of Transportation for onward report to the Police for possible prosecution.
Giwa insisted that the ban has become expedient as part of measures to streamline transportation enforcement in the state for better effectiveness in line with global best practices.
He, however, warned that the ban was not an excuse for drivers to disobey the traffic laws of the state, insisting that the law would still take its course on any offender.
He declared that traffic management and transportation was not only a cardinal pillar in the THEMES development agenda of the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of the state, but also the first.
He alluded to the need for a continuous boost of the socio-economic prosperity of the state, hence the need to readjust the enforcement strategy for better performance.
Besides, he appealed to Lagosians to cooperate with the government in its effort to abate the traffic situation in Lagos and assured that a lot was going to bring much desired change into the transport sector.
