The Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring the lost glory of the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).
Ganduje made this known on Tuesday during an inspection visit to the airport, where he led a high-powered delegation of FAAN officials to assess the state of infrastructure, including ongoing and abandoned projects.
The former Kano State Governor and former APC National Chairman said the visit was aimed at developing a comprehensive modernisation and sustainability plan that would reposition the airport for improved service delivery.
Describing MAKIA as one of the oldest and most historically significant airports in Nigeria and West Africa, Ganduje noted that it once served as a major aviation hub connecting Nigeria to the world and therefore deserves renewed investment.
“We are here to see things for ourselves—the old and the new projects—so that we can chart a new course to revitalise this airport and restore its place among the best in the region,” he said.
He assured that the FAAN board was committed to enhancing passenger experience, strengthening safety compliance, and improving operational efficiency in line with global aviation standards.
According to him, insights from the inspection will form part of a strategic blueprint to make MAKIA a model of modern airport management and a key driver of economic growth in the North.
The delegation inspected various sections of the airport, including the arrival and departure halls, runway, and cargo terminal, to identify priority areas requiring urgent intervention.
