McEnies Global Communications Drives Climate-Health Integration In Nigeria

McEnies Global Communications is advancing the use of weather and climate data in Nigeria’s health sector through the Weather and Climate Information Services for Resilience (WISER) Health project.

The initiative is led by the UK Met Office and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in partnership with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Rockefeller Foundation.

The chief executive officer of McEnies Global Communications, Dr Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, said the company is working to make meteorological data more actionable for health-sector decision-makers. “Climate information holds untapped potential to transform health outcomes. Our work with WISER Health ensures timely, equitable and locally relevant responses,” she said.

She disclosed in a statement that “McEnies is collaborating with key agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), and is conducting community surveys and cross-sectoral workshops to ensure early warning services are inclusive and responsive to local realities. The initiative builds on McEnies’ 2023 partnership with the UK Met Office and FCDO to develop communication strategies mitigating flooding risks in Nigeria. Lessons from that project are now being applied to integrate climate information into health sector planning.

Through WISER Health, McEnies and its partners aim to strengthen Nigeria’s climate-resilient health systems by ensuring actionable data informs decision-making and response strategies across vulnerable communities.”
