The Zainab Saleh Foundation has announced that it has set the date for the 8th edition of the female karate championships, which will commence between November 17 and 20, 2022, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The championship, which began in October 2014 and will now resume after being paused briefly in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was designed to ensure that the female gender is adequately equipped for self-defense, safety, and security.
Over 400 participants expected at the competition, which includes athletes, referees, judges, coaches, and management personnel from all over the country.
Other prominent guests expected are: prominent members of the Karate Federation of Nigeria; prominent Karate referees, one of whom is Mr. Olusegun Akinola; the tournament director who is the chairman; the Karate Federation of Nigeria Referees’ Commission; and other African Karate Federations.
According to its founder, Hajiya Zainab Saleh, who herself is a karateker, “the girl child must be able to protect herself physically, mentally, materially, and otherwise. “Girl child protection must not be limited to her emancipation in education and business alone but must also ensure her safety and security as well.”
The championship is in collaboration with the Lagos State Karate Association (LSKA) and the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN).
