As part of efforts to strengthen education and nurture future leaders through sustained investment in STEM, Lagos Free Zone has sponsored the 10th edition of the Tolaram Science Challenge, which began on Friday.
A total of 16 secondary schools from the Ibeju-Lekki axis are participating in this year’s competition, marking a decade of the initiative’s focus on promoting science education within the Lekki Free Zone corridor.
The annual contest, organised under the Lagos Free Zone’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, is designed to encourage innovation and improve interest in STEM subjects among students in surrounding communities.
Each participating school is represented by six students competing in a multi-stage assessment covering Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and General Knowledge. The competition also requires students to develop and present innovative solutions to real-world challenges through collaboration and experimentation.
Participating schools include Ibeju Senior High School, Community Senior Secondary School Debojo, Royal Triple Dee School, Igbogun Senior High School, Laborc Schools Orimedu, Ise Senior High School, among others across Ibeju-Lekki, Epe and nearby communities.
Lagos Free Zone Chief Executive Officer, Adesuwa Ladoja, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to strengthening education and nurturing future leaders through strategic investment in STEM.
Chief Sustainability Officer Vishal Shah added that the programme aligns with the zone’s sustainability agenda, with emphasis on youth empowerment and long-term socioeconomic development.
The competition will conclude with a grand finale scheduled for June 26, 2026, where finalists will present projects before a panel of judges drawn from academia, industry and the innovation ecosystem.
