LG Electronics has commissioned its 21st solar-powered borehole in Nigeria at Osan Agba, Oke Oka Akoko, Ondo State, as part of efforts to improve access to clean water in underserved communities.

The project extends the company’s community water initiative, which combines access to clean water with renewable energy to support sustainable water supply.

The Akoko South West Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ayo Ajana, who spoke at the commissioning, said the intervention demonstrated the importance of private-sector participation in community development.

Ajana said the project would complement government efforts to address the water needs of residents, urging the community to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance.

The Adedibu of Osan Agba Oka, Hon. Ologunbaba Ruben, described the borehole as an intervention that would benefit families and children in the community.

He said residents had a responsibility to preserve the facility to ensure its continued use.

Similarly, the Olugbedere of Igbedere, Osan Agba Oka, Chief Darusa Adedibu, said access to clean water was essential to improving public health, hygiene and the general well-being of residents.

The Chairman of Ude Osan Agba Oka, Hon. Ajulo Tayo, also called for collective responsibility in maintaining the facility.

The Managing Director of LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Hyoung Sub Ji, represented by the General Manager, Media Entertainment Solutions, TV Department, Mr. Choongbae Seok, said the installation marked an important milestone in the company’s community development efforts.

Seok said the initiative was designed to address basic community needs through technology, adding that the solar-powered system would reduce dependence on the national electricity grid.

He said the company’s objective was to provide practical infrastructure capable of serving communities beyond the commissioning ceremony.

The Ondo project follows the company’s 20th solar-powered borehole installation in Nariya Rigasa, Kaduna State.

LG Electronics said its water initiative was aimed at expanding access to clean water while promoting renewable energy and community participation in maintaining public infrastructure.
