Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has presented a 2026 Appropriation Bill of N820.49 billion to the State House of Assembly, projecting a fiscal year shaped by internally driven growth and a stronger revenue base.
Presenting the proposal in Lokoja on Tuesday, Ododo said the budget—tagged “Budget of Shared Prosperity: Driving Sustainable Growth for All”—allocates N470 billion to recurrent expenditure and N350.5 billion to capital projects. It also includes a surplus capital development fund of N102.5 billion, signalling an expansionary outlook for 2026.
He said the plan is anchored on fiscal self-reliance, restructuring Kogi’s IGR architecture and adopting innovative financing models to reduce the state’s dependence on federal allocations over time.
Ododo listed top priorities for 2026 to include human capital development, youth and women empowerment, and an education sector push aimed at expanding access and improving quality to build a competitive workforce. He added that health, infrastructure upgrades—covering transportation, housing and airport services—and agricultural expansion remain central to boosting productivity and securing food systems.
Other focus areas include water and sanitation, enhanced revenue generation, and strengthened peace and security to support a stable investment environment.
“These sectoral investments are designed to stimulate enterprise, generate jobs and widen opportunities for young people, women and small businesses,” he said.
Speaker Umar Yusuf assured the governor of the Assembly’s continued collaboration, noting that Ododo’s decision to grant full legislative autonomy has improved accountability and strengthened the House’s institutional capacity.
