The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) have jointly inaugurated a revenue recovery exercise aimed at strengthening fiscal governance and boosting inflows into the Federation Account.
RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Shehu, who announced the initiative during the inauguration of engaged consultants in Abuja on Monday, said the collaboration was part of efforts to ensure that all revenues due to the Federation were properly accounted for and remitted.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the Federation is transparently remitted,” he said.
Shehu explained that the engagement of consultants would help plug revenue leakages, enhance transparency, and improve the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government — in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the initiative would identify and recover unremitted revenues across key sectors, thereby improving Nigeria’s overall fiscal performance.
FIRS Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, represented by Coordinating Director Shettima Tamadi, commended RMAFC’s leadership and reaffirmed FIRS’s commitment to supporting the exercise.
“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” Adedeji said.
RMAFC Secretary, Mr. Joseph Okechukwu, urged the consultants to complete their assignment within the stipulated six-month timeframe and ensure all recoverable funds were promptly returned to the Federation Account.
Speaking on behalf of the consultants, Mr. Temitayo Ojeleke described the assignment as a national call to duty, pledging professionalism, transparency, and measurable outcomes.
He said the collaboration marked a milestone in inter-agency synergy, accountability, and revenue optimisation for national development.
