The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has established an Unclaimed Monies Office to help investors recover unclaimed funds and resolve related complaints through a direct channel.
SEC Director-General, Emomotimi Agama, disclosed this during an appearance on the Duke in Business podcast, explaining that investors could contact the office directly instead of navigating lengthy processes.
He said the Commission would contact the relevant parties after receiving complaints to facilitate resolution.
Agama said investors could reach the office through the SEC’s digital channels and other communication platforms, including social media, telephone and WhatsApp.
“We set out to deal with this matter frontally. And how did we do it? We set up an office specifically at the SEC called the Unclaimed Monies Office,” he said.
“Which means if you have any of such challenges, you don’t need to go through processes. Go straight to them and they will get in touch with the people.
“Is it Instagram? Is it telephone? Is it WhatsApp? Just name it,” he added.
The initiative is part of the Commission’s efforts to improve investor engagement and make it easier for market participants to resolve complaints involving unclaimed funds.
