The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has inaugurated a ₦717.4 million Faculty of Social Sciences Lecture Theatre and Office Complex at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), marking another milestone in its infrastructure drive.

The Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees, Hon. Aminu Masari, commissioned the facility on Tuesday at the Keffi campus.

The new complex features 22 en-suite offices, four 200-capacity lecture theatres, and 12 public conveniences. It was executed under the merged 2020/2021 annual intervention, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education.

Masari praised NSUK management for transparency and efficiency in the deployment of intervention funds — noting that this is the third project TETFund has commissioned at the institution in under three years.

“It shows the institution’s resolve to ensure funds are judiciously used with verifiable results,” he said.
“We are optimistic that this facility will aid teaching and learning in a comfortable environment, having been furnished and adequately equipped for that purpose.”

The TETFund chairman revealed that between January and September 2025, the Fund achieved about 71% completion on its infrastructure-based projects nationwide. Since NSUK became a beneficiary in 2003, he added, it has received over ₦12.7 billion in infrastructure interventions — with about 80% already accessed and evidenced across the campus.

Masari reaffirmed TETFund’s support for innovation, ICT upgrades and sustainable power solutions in tertiary institutions. He noted that foreign training programmes for lecturers were temporarily suspended due to high exchange rates and personnel abscondment, with attention now focused on impactful local capacity-building.

Representing TETFund Executive Secretary, Mr Sonny Echono, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Babatunde Olajide, said the inauguration underscored the Fund’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s tertiary education ecosystem despite inflationary pressures and exchange-rate challenges affecting project delivery timelines.

NSUK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Liman, described the commissioning as historic for the institution, praising TETFund’s role in improving learning conditions and staff productivity.

“This magnificent structure will promote teaching, enhance research, and create a truly conducive environment for our students,” she noted.

Prof. Liman highlighted the university’s recent recognition as Nigeria’s number one institution for Quality Education under the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (SDG 4), attributing the achievement in part to TETFund’s continued support.

She assured accountability in further interventions and appealed for more facilities including additional lecture theatres, faculty buildings and solar power infrastructure.

Also present, Governor Abdullahi Sule — represented by Commissioner for Education, Dr John Mamman — commended TETFund for sustained contributions to tertiary education and reaffirmed the state government’s support.
